Cloud-native computing is not only transforming application development but also involves rethinking the management of workloads and infrastructure by adopting modern practices such as GitOps and Infrastructure as Code.
Harvester, a new open source project from SUSE, extends the cloud-native approach to infrastructure management from the cloud to the data center and edge, by providing a complete hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) stack on top of Kubernetes.
The talk starts by introducing the audience to the design goals and architecture of the Harvester software project. We will then explain how users can leverage Harvester to easily implement and scale hyper-converged infrastructure on top of general-purpose bare-metal servers. Finally, we will discuss the benefits of adopting open source technologies, such as Kubernetes for HCI, highlighting the ability to reduce the divide between cloud and data center IT operations and improving the manageability of increasingly distributed and fragmented infrastructure in the age of edge computing and IoT.
