Description
Oftentimes, business leaders can become overwhelmed with all the possibilities and processes stemming from different frameworks. In this article, we’ll discuss the ways in which ITIL, SRE and DevOps align and differ. ITIL4 is the most recent version of the well-known service management framework from Axelos. Through a bi-modal approach, this framework aligns well with both DevOps and agile. On the other hand is SRE, or site reliability engineering, which is Google’s take on service management. This approach has become popular as a supplement to DevOps practices. We’ll discuss some of the ways that these frameworks differ – like how SRE emphasizes self-organization and error budgets while ITIL promotes a more command-and-control-oriented structure. We’ll also uncover how these frameworks also are closely connected (and well-aligned with DevOps) because of their focus on automation.
